Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef brisket
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • 8 hamburger buns

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large oven-safe pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Season the brisket with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Place the brisket in the pot with the onions and garlic.
  4. In a bowl, mix together the beef broth, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this mixture over the brisket.
  5. Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven. Cook for 3 to 4 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
  6. Once cooked, remove the brisket from the pot and let it rest for 10 minutes. Shred the meat using two forks.
  7. Return the shredded beef to the pot and stir it into the sauce. Let it simmer on the stovetop for an additional 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  8. Serve the caramelized pulled beef on hamburger buns, topped with extra barbecue sauce if desired.
