Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare your favorite chocolate cake recipe or follow package instructions, baking it in a greased cake pan at 350°F (175°C) for about 25-30 minutes. Allow it to cool completely.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, pour in heavy cream and whip on medium speed until soft peaks form, about 3-5 minutes. Add in powdered sugar for sweetness if desired.
  3. Once the chocolate cake is cooled, slice it into bite-sized cubes, about 1-inch in size.
  4. In a clear trifle dish, start with a layer of cake cubes, followed by sweet cherries and a generous layer of whipped cream.
  5. Continue layering with more cake cubes, cherries, and whipped cream, aiming for at least three layers.
  6. Top the final layer of whipped cream with chocolate shavings and additional cherries for garnish.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or ideally overnight before serving.
