Step-by-Step Instructions for BEST French Dip Sliders
- Melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced medium onions and cook for about 8-10 minutes until softened and golden brown. Stir in fresh thyme, kosher salt, and black pepper, then set aside.
- Slice sweet rolls horizontally while keeping halves together, creating a sturdy base for the sliders. Set aside on a baking sheet.
- Layer sautéed onion mixture on bottom halves of sliced rolls, add provolone cheese, and top with deli roast beef. Cap with top halves of the rolls.
- In a small saucepan, melt 0.5 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Whisk in dried onion soup mix and au jus gravy mix, then add 3 cups of water. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
- Pour au jus into a shallow dish for dipping. Serve sliders warm dipped in au jus just before enjoying.

Notes
Pre-cook the onion mixture and au jus a day before serving and reheat for convenience. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For best results, reheat in the oven.
