In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and add the loose black tea or tea bags. Steep for 5 minutes.
Strain the tea into a separate pot or remove the tea bags.
Add the milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, honey or sugar, and a pinch of salt to the brewed tea.
Return the mixture to low heat and warm gently, stirring until the sweetener is dissolved and the tea is heated through (do not boil).
Taste and adjust sweetness or cinnamon as desired.
Pour into cups and enjoy warm, or chill in the refrigerator for an iced version.
